Wolves manager Kenny Jackett says the club will be targeting an immediate return to the Championship when the new season begins.
Wolves became the first club to suffer back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to the third tier of English football since Swindon Town in 1993-94 and 1994-95 – last season, finishing four points adrift of safety.
While a host of the club s big-earners and internationals are set to leave, Welshman Jackett, who was appointed on Friday, is remaining positive, insisting his squad will be going all out to win promotion from League One.
We want to get promoted this year, Jackett told the BBC.
Is it going to be easy? No, but it s a challenge that we are relishing and looking forward to.
Jackett – who resigned from his role at Millwall last month – is insistent that the club prepares well in the coming weeks to ensure they can hit the ground running.
It s a fresh challenge for me. I m stepping into a club which has enormous potential, he said.
They ve had troubles in recent years, but we ve got to make sure there s no hangover and we adjust to League One quickly.
The important thing is that we realise where we are we want to be successful in League One.
When the season starts in the early weeks of August, hit the ground running with a young and vibrant Wolves side that can be successful in the future.
Jackett is aware that he will lose several key members of his squad, with the likes of Kevin Doyle, Stephen Hunt, Jamie O Hara and Bakary Sako all likely to depart Molineux.
But Jackett says he will sell the history and status of the club to prospective new arrivals, in a bid to prepare a team capable of winning promotion at the first attempt.
There has to be some adjustments both football-wise and financially after two relegation seasons, you would expect that, he said.
We will see what the next few months will bring in terms of players.
My message to the players is that they are at a fantastic club and they have the opportunity to be successful here.
Jackett – who has previously managed Watford, Swansea City and Millwall – has a good track record in League One.
He guided Millwall out of the division, via the play-offs, in the 2009-10 campaign, and kept the club in the Championship for the following three seasons.
