Arsenal and Liverpool eye moves for Milner

that Liverpool and Arsenal are both keeping an eye on James Milner’s situation at Manchester City as his contract issues appear to be no closer to being resolved.

The England international’s current deal with the Premier League champions is set to expire at the end of the season, and both Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger have been linked with moves for the 29 year old.

The despite being praised in many quarters for his performances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side so far this year, Milner is still not guaranteed a place in the Chilean’s starting XI and is considering his options ahead of next season.

Since arriving in Manchester in the summer of 2010, the former Newcastle United and Aston Villa has racked up one hundred and eighty-three appearances in a…

Howedes: I was tempted to leave Schalke

Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes claims he has unfinished business with his boyhood club after turning down opportunities to leave Germany.

The 27-year-old defender is a one-club man, having joined club s youth setup in 2001, but was heavily linked with a transfer abroad until general manager Horst Heldt revealed on Sunday that Howedes would stay.

Speaking to Kicker, Howedes confirmed he was tempted to leave with Arsenal and Milan rumoured to be the clubs to have made offers  but did not think the time was right.

During Howedes eight seasons in Schalke s first team, they have only finished lower than fourth twice, including 2014-15 where they claimed sixth, but he has only added two winners medal to his collection  the 2011 DFB-Pokal and 2011 DFL Supercup.

Victory cut Covic, Brebner

Melbourne Victory head coach Ange Postecoglou has wasted no time axing uncontracted stars Ante Covic and Grant Brebner.

Postecoglou took charge at his first training session at AAMI Park on Tuesday before cutting the veteran duo.

Covic, 36, was named the Victory s player of the year on Friday but has been overlooked ahead of relative youngsters Tando Velaphi and Lawrence Thomas, who are both already contracted for next season.

I was pretty happy with my season last year and was hopeful of getting another contract, but sometimes things don t work out that way in football, Covic said.

Brebner, 34, made 120 appearances since joining from Scottish outfit Dundee United, including winning grand finals in 2007 and 2009.

Russia banned from Tokyo Olympics and Qatar World Cup as CAS announces verdict

Russia will be barred from competing as a nation at the Olympic Games, Winter Olympics and football World Cup over the next two years after the Court of Arbitration for Sport partly upheld a suspension imposed for breaching anti-doping rules.

In 2019, Russia was handed a four-year ban from major international sporting events by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

WADA declared the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) non-compliant over inconsistencies in anti-doping data discovered during an investigation.

At the time, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reiterated its support for Russia s ban, which meant athletes would be unable to compete under the Russian flag at the 2020 Olympics or the 2022 Winter Games.

Diogo Dalot joins Milan on loan after Man Utd struggles

Milan have signed Diogo Dalot on loan from Manchester United for the 2020-21 season.

Although reports previously suggested Milan would have the option to purchase Dalot at the end of the campaign, no such clause has been included in the deal.

Dalot, 21, joined United from Porto in 2018 to great expectations, with then-manager Jose Mourinho declaring him to be the best full-back in Europe in his age group.

Mourinho also suggested in December 2018 that in Dalot, United had a right-back for 10 years , but the Portuguese coach was sacked later that month and the player has failed to kick on under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Holland hoping to feature for Australia

James Holland is looking to regain a regular spot for Australia after finding his feet for club side Austria Vienna.

The 23-year-old won a recall to the Socceroos squad for an international friendly with Lebanon in Beirut on Thursday and a crucial 2014 AFC World Cup qualifier with Jordan in Amman five days later.

An appearance for his country in either game would be his first in over two years, and would come as a just reward for a bright start to the Austrian Bundesliga season.

Employed somewhat more defensively than his customary attacking midfield role, the former Newcastle Jet has been crucial in seven league appearances as Austria Vienna have romped to the top of the table.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants clarity on time-wasting offences

Jurgen Klopp called for clarity on time-wasting offences after Trent Alexander-Arnold was booked for taking too long over a thrown-in during Liverpool’s draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

This season has seen the introduction of measures to try and keep the ball in play for a greater proportion of matches, with significant increases in added time seen over the Premier League’s opening weekend.

It is hoped that adding on time to reflect the length of pauses to the game will deter players from delaying the re-start of play.
