Bayern Munich prioritize new Alphonso Davies contract amid Real Madrid interest

The contract binding Alphonso Davies to Bayern Munich has two years left to run, but the Bavarians are keen to have him sign a new one as soon as possible with Real Madrid lurking, according to Fabrizio Romano. Reports elsewhere have also put Manchester City in the mix.

Still only 22, the Canadian left-back already has four Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal trophies to his name, as well as the 2020 Champions League medal followed by the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. He has played 153 matches for the club in all competitions, scoring eight goals and producing 25 assists. He also has 39 caps for his country.

Real Madrid have Ferland Mendy as a designated left-back, but his frequent injury problems have forced coach Carlo Ancelotti to deploy various alternative solutions in the role, including former Bayern defender David Alaba, versatile defender Nacho, and midfielder Edouardo Camavinga.

As for Manchester City, they ve mostly been using centre-back Nathan Ake on the left defensive flank, with head coach Pep Guardiola apparently reluctant to put faith into 22-year-old Sergio Gomez and Benjamin Mendy still out of the squad as he battles multiple criminal charges. Last summer, they sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and lost the race for Marc Cucurella to Chelsea.

Bayern are pushing to extend Alphonso Davies’ contract as soon as possible. It’s top priority as negotiations are already ongoing.

Player side, waiting on clarity over club management before final decision.

Real Madrid appreciate Davies but no concrete talks, as of now.
