Tottenham 6 Millwall 0: Hat-trick hero Son sends Spurs to Wembley, but fears for injured Kane

Son Heung-min scored a hat-trick as Tottenham coasted into the FA Cup semi-finals thanks to a 6-0 thrashing of London rivals Millwall but Mauricio Pochettino will have fears over Harry Kane, who limped off early in Sunday s contest.

England striker Kane was injured followed an innocuous looking challenge with Jake Cooper in just the eighth minute at White Hart Lane, but it did little to stem Spurs blistering attack against the League One side.

Christian Eriksen, Kane s replacement, put the home side ahead after 31 minutes and Son s superb curling effort made it 2-0 before half-time.

Son delighted the home fans with another fine effort, watching a long ball over his shoulder and volleying home, before Dele Alli made it 4-0 and White Hart Lane was treated to Vincen…

Schurrle doubts Rooney would make Germany team

Germany forward Andre Schurrle has praised Wayne Rooney but is unsure if the England man would make it into his national team.

Roy Hodgson s England face Germany on Tuesday for the first time since their chastening 4-1 defeat to Joachim Low s men in the second round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and Manchester United striker Rooney will be key to his country s hopes of recording a first win over their rivals at Wembley since 1975.

England s preparations for the match were dealt a blow on Friday with defeat to Chile, as Barcelona striker Alexis Sanchez scored twice to secure a 2-0 win for the South Americans.

Rooney scored seven goals in six qualifying matches on the way to helping England secure their place at Brazil 2014, but Chelsea attacker Schurrle still believes the…

Real Madrid 2-1 Rayo Vallecano: Kroos and Benzema send Los Blancos top of LaLiga

Karim Benzema continued his fine form in front of goal as Real Madrid went top of LaLiga with a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.

Toni Kroos put Madrid ahead when he finished off a counter-attack in the 14th minute, the goal awarded after a VAR review having initially been ruled offside.

Benzema s 10th league goal of the season – and ninth in 10 against Rayo – made it two seven minutes before half-time, but Madrid sat back following the restart and Radamel Falcao s response ensured a tense finish.

Rayo could not quite forge an equaliser, though, and Madrid moved two points ahead of Real Sociedad at the summit at least until their trip to Osasuna on Sunday.

Alvaro Garcia had almost given Rayo a shock early lead when he broke clear of the M…

Leicester players devastated by Srivaddhanaprabha´s death – Puel

Leicester City players are devastated by the death of the club s owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and will be given time off to attend his funeral, said manager Claude Puel.

Srivaddhanaprabha was one of five people who died when the Leicester chairman s helicopter crashed moments after taking off from the King Power Stadium s pitch on Saturday.

Puel confirmed reports that Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, a key player in the club s remarkable Premier League title triumph in 2015-16, was one of the first people on the scene of the accident.

Yes I don t want to give out the details of course just for Kasper, he lives this situation and he saw a lot of things, Puel told a news conference.

Kasper, like the other players, they all have a lot of histo…

Silva sorry as Man City fail to finish off Newcastle

Bernardo Silva was disappointed Manchester City could not fully complete the comeback in their thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle United at St James Park.

City trailed by two goals with 54 minutes played of Sunday s Premier League clash before Erling Haaland and Silva struck in the space of four minutes after the hour mark.

Pep Guardiola s side finished the game with an expected goals (xG) return of 2.20, compared to 2.02 for Newcastle, who had themselves recovered from a goal down to lead.

Although pleased with the way City responded to take a point against Newcastle, Silva felt the visitors had time to find a winning goal and maintain their perfect start to the season.

We scored the third goal in the 64th minute, so it was still very early in the game,…

Atlético, Chelsea and cramming square pegs into a variety of holes

ANOTHER NIGHT, ANOTHER CITY

The Fiver didn’t get where it is today by stealing catchphrases from characters in 1970s sitcoms about a man named Reginald Perrin who fakes his own death out of boredom. No, The Fiver got where it is today by showing a willingness to improvise and adapt in a bid to overcome adversity, much like Diego Simeone at Atlético Madrid. While the Argentinian’s pitch-side attire remains as Johnny Cash as ever, he has in the past year completely changed his team’s approach to the game. Whether it’s changing his formation or slotting assorted square pegs into round, triangular or hexagonal holes, the man once renowned for the rigidity of his thinking about how the game should be play…
